“The calming movement of the sea along with the restless ocean breeze gently caresses me creating a soothing trance which lulls me to a place of peace.”

M. L. Borges, By The Sea

Meet Wendy.....

The sound of seagulls.

From my home studio in Lulworth Cove, on the Dorset coast, I combine my love of the sea and my passion for glass, making work that captures the essence of the coast, connecting you to the sea through my glass art and jewellery. I use a variety of fused glass materials and techniques to experiment with light, layers, energy, and colour. My work reflects the ever-changing energy and seasonal colours of the coast, so you will discover both serene and vibrant work to suit you. I love incorporating screen printed elements in work, creating small details for you to discover, which creates work you can lose yourself in.

I absolutely love working whilst listening to the sound of seagulls and will often take a pause from the studio to walk Nala, my 2 year old Cockerdoodlepo on the beach. This never fails to bring a wash of calm, clarity of thought and uplift the soul and hope this is reflected in the artwork, evoking a sense of tranquillity and joy for you.

The magic qualities of glass.

I have worked with glass for over 25 years since graduating with a 1st class degree in glass from Edinburgh College of Art, then receiving the prestigious Crafts Council Start Up Award to purchase equipment to start The Red Brick Glass Studio. Originally I worked on large-scale glass installations for public buildings and arts projects. My work has changed in scale and style over the years but my draw to nature and passion for the magic qualities of glass has always been at the core of my work. Since moving to my coastal studio 5 years ago my work has been sea focused and I love connecting to sea and glass lovers who are drawn to my work.

Workshops and creative connections.

I have taught fused glass in workshops at my home studio and in schools for 15 years, and love sharing my passion for the exciting materials and processes, including my specialist techniques of glass embossing and screen-printing. My monthly fused glass workshops are held from my home studio, which is a gorgeous light filled barn conversion, overlooking the Lulworth hills. I love connecting to other creatives, guiding you through fused glass processes and helping bring your visions to life. If you are interested in coming along to a workshop, please do take a look at the workshop page here on the website.

Therapeutic making.

During lock down I developed make at home fused glass kits to help people be creative and offer therapeutic making time. They were a huge success and I had to ask for help from my teenage children to process all the orders. I continue to offer kits and love seeing the results. New kits will be coming out this year, please do sign up to the newsletter to be the first to hear.

Wendy was friendly and welcoming; her studio is in a lovely setting with beautiful views, and we were helped and encouraged through the processes of creating fused glass.
